Father Edip Daniel Savci, 42, was kidnapped in southeastern Turkey, Yuhannan Gulten of Syrian Orthodox Mor Gabriel Monastery south of Midyat told Compass “He (Father Daniel) called us himself and gave us the news, we immediately called the police, and they went to get him.” Gulten also said that the priest Savci’s hostage takers released him free without any outside involvement but he was could not tell about Savci’s health and the identity of his kidnappers or whether a ransom money was paid or not. The priest was released in the city of Batman, 70 kilometers (43 miles) north of Midyat, where he was kidnapped. The hostage takers contacted a fellow clergyman from Savci’s mobile phone and asked for 300,000 euros to release the father. In recent years many violent attacks against Christens have been done in Turkey. In February 2006 a Turkish killed a Catholic priest in the northern port city of Trabzon.
